being afraid of things is a survival response its good shes afraid of spiders because you wouldn't want her trying to play with a Black Widow or a Brown Recluse...

Books and movies where spiders and such bugs are nice creatures can help. Like Charlottes Web...but also cute little pastel beanie baby spiders can help young children get over a fear of them. :)

I'm 14 and I'm still scared of spiders... Just tell her that the bugs are WAY more scared of her than she is of them.

Now I'm not gonna sit here and lie...I AM AFRAID OF SPIDERS AND BEE'S AND ANYTHING BUZZING..lol, but my babies are somewhat ok with bugs because of this one cartoon "Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends" it comes on Noggin on channel 226 if you have Verizon FIOS! They're not as fretful as me when I see a bug they tell me what it is and they attempt to examine it rather then run..unless its big and scary! Now the show is not realistic at all cuz on the show no bug eats bugs, their all these wonderful sweet vegetarians living off of berries,nuts and honeysuckles..lol but it gives the children a different view of bugs instead of instilling fear it gives them a normality, and bugs are normal...but I don't care I'm an adult and it doesn't matter how small they are and how big I am I still scream....lol :) Maybe if I watched this as a child and didn't get to see any of those horrific sci-fi movies of monster bugs and what bugs can do I would be ok...=)

Not sure if you can. I've been terrified of bees my entire life and there is no force on this earth that could change that.

Medication is out of the question, since she's so young. Slowly introduce her to them, maybe looking at them through a window or something, she'll get more used to them.

I'm pretty sure it's just a girl phase. We all have done it, and she'll (maybe) get over it.

llol shes only 5 years old and female. man im 18 and im scared shitless and disgusted when i see a spider or some wierd bug......

My daughter had that same problem she'll be 5 next week (still does with spiders but nothing else now) I tried explaining that they are just as scared, didnt work.  What I did is went around and randomly collected any bugs I could find, flies, beatles, worms, catpillars....and let her learn about them hands on, then we went online and leared all the cool facts about that bug, now she has a plant in the window that she will put any beatles she finds in, and she likes to go out at night to catch fire flys.  Its hard but it can be fun, she just needs to learn more about them.  Have you tried asking her why she's scared of them?
