Question:

How do get the council to agree to chop down a tree?

The problem is that there is an absolutely massive tree just outside our house on council property but it dwarfs several houses and usually looses branches in storms - over a well used walkway of school children and walkers. None of this has been persuasive enough so far. Sooner or later someone will get injured/killed or property will be damaged. Please help.

  1. Make them an offer they can't refuse.

  2. Most councils won't remove the tree unless it is diseased and classed as dangerous, that is, it dies and falls onto the house. Our council say if the tree is within 2 metres of a house then it can be removed, even if it is not diseased and not a native to the area. You really need to check your own councils rules. City is different to rural.

  3. Hire an arbourist to make a report of the tree/danger.  It will probably cost around $200.  Present it to the council and your town offices and the school.  Hopefully they will take action.
