  1. Hi,

A lot of the above answers are good ones. Frankly, being able to spin the ball like a pro can will be difficult. Pinching your ball consistently with your down swing takes a lot of practice. It's the pinching of the ball that generates a lot of backspin.

One thing that has helped me is the regular sharpenening of the grooves on my wedges. Whilst not generating the kind of spin Tiger and Phil can get - I generate enough to make my golfing buddies a little envious.

I recently bought a neat groove sharpener from the website indicated in the source field below.

    Hope this helps.

    Enjoy your golf.

  2. There are a lot of answers but golfers who play professionally practice 4 t0 6 hours daily when not playing, have instructors who look for faults in the swings and correct them, and develop the pro swing of hitting the ball before hitting the turf to impart backspin. Not only impart the spin but also moderate it so that a shot will stop after a hop or two. The secret is hit down on the ball's lower third drive it into the turf which will impart spin with any club from the 6 iron,7,8,9,pw and sw.

  3. Two answers for this question.

First, the type of ball you play will affect the amount of spin on the ball.  A Pro V-1 will spin far more than a pinnacle.

Second, swing plane.  Hitting the ball on the downswing will produce more backspin than a shot struck on the upswing.

The older model irons also used to be made with square grooves, but these were deemed illegal by the USGA a number of years ago, so clubs are not manufactured with them anymore.

    Hopes this helps.

  4. They basically hit down with enough power from their swing to get incredible height. Many amateurs think hit down to get backspin, and just end up jabbing the club down on the ball, squiting the ball out low. With the wedges, as some ppl have already mentioned you have to 'pinch' the ball. You see sometimes that this causes players to be able to skip a low flighted wedge in from 70 yards, let it hop forward a few bounces then rip backwards as the spin kicks in. This is an extremely difficult skill to master, and things like this are why pros are pros and amateurs aren't!!

  5. its simple you must have a wedge with clean groves and you must use a soft ball like a nike one platinum combine that with hitting the ball really clean and your ball should roll back just how you want want it.

  6. You really need to have a clean lie, good grooves and a soft golf ball.

Here is quite a good article: http://ezinearticles.com/?How-To-Get-Bac...

  7. its simple: all you have to do is to use a shorter club for example- a 9 iron or a wedge will get more backspin than your driver or your woods drivers are made to hit the ball far so they use techology to keep the ball rolling longer and vice versa

  8. the way to do this is to "pinch" the ball. you want to catch the ball on your downswing.

  9. The tip to launching long, accurate straight drives. Distance doesn’t mean a thing if you don’t have the control to go with it. This one simple secret will give you controlled power.

The two most important body positions you should be in during the swing. (These two positions must be studied carefully for maximum impact).
