  1. that it benefits from a flood because since the wetlands is more of a grassy / watery area that it's probably more use to the water. Plus it's more of natural habitat. I'm sure the organisms are use too it!

  2. Grasslands benefit from fire since they can once again undergo a new ecological succession.

They benefit from flood since the flood carries with it the rich alluvial sand into the grassland.

  3. Grassland communities require periodic defoliation to maintain diversity.  Burning is just one of the method of defoliation.  Defoliation opens the canopy and allows the soil to receive sunlight.  This stimulates the germination of seed and starts new plant growth.  If the canopy is not open, sunlight does not reach the soil, seeds do not germinate, and eventually thatch builds to a point that existing perennial vegetation will not grow as well and the community dies.  I have actually significantly reduced the biodiversity of a plot area by merely not defoliating a plot area for more than 5 years.

Flooding a site will transport nutrients to the field, essentially adding fertilizer.  This nutrient input will significantly increase growth for one or more growing seasons.  The increase in growth will increase forage availability which allows the foraging animals to increase individual animal production as well as an associated increase in animal production per unit area of land.  (see stocking rate theory in grassland and range science).
