How do gutter screens work vs. the more expensive gutter guards preventing leaves clogging up the gutter?

Would you recommend using the gutter screens?

just all depends what you want to keep out leaves great the propellers from maple trees not so good i bought mine at hd plastic fits under shingles and on gutter two bucks for three feet i used to clean my gutters six times a year now i am down to two

You will still need to clean off the gutter guards or screens. To me, these are money down the drain.

Gutter screens keep out all the big stuff.  Gutter helmets more times than not will keep everything out including most of the water.  And some times they will suck the leaves right in with the water and you can not get in there to clean them out.  Screens may get clogged up over time but you can hose right through them to clean them out.  If you get a good quality screen they are the best gutter protection in my opinion.  We use E-Z Lock and have had no complaints.
