Question:

How do highschool credits work when I'm halfway through my freshman year and want to be homeschooled?

I'm a freshman in highschool who will, in about a week, be done with my first semester. I'll get 8 half credits, and I'm wondering if I start homeschooling after I get those will they stay with me, or will I have to redo all of the courses?

If they won't stay with me, then will my one semester only Speech class half credit stay?

Also, would it be better if I went into a state credited curriculum for the state I live in, or could I go with a different state's credited curiculum?

Much appreciation to anyone who answers.

  1. If you completed the semester and got a final grade you got credit for those courses

Based on their system.  Some schools give 1 credit per course, others 3 or 5 credits.

They will be on your transcript at that school, along with your final grade.

  2. Im homeschooled.

i started when i was in grade 8 and i had to start over.

you would have to earn your credits all over again.

    =[[

    so NOT fun.

  3. Are you switching to actual homeschooling or to an online/correspondence program? This will make a difference in the answer.

From what I've gathered, in most states your parents determine your graduation requirements for actual homeschooling. As long as you are NOT going to be going back to public school, there's no problem. If you plan on going back to public school, you may have trouble having them recognize your credits.

I'm not sure what you mean by "went into a state credited curriculum"--the only way that's possible is if you do state-approved correspondence (if it exists where you live), do independent study (if it exists in your school--in which case, there won't be an issue at all with your credits), or an online program like K12 (if it exists where you live). You can still follow the public school curriculum on your own at home, if you wish. You'll need to check the laws where you live about any curriculum requirements and then you can choose what you want within those.

  4. yes you can transfer them over the same as if you switched to a new school and they tranfer then we well

  5. Look up the laws for homeschooling in Georgia to be sure. Go to HSLDA.org. Usually though you won't have to retake any classes as you and your parents decide yourselves what classes you plan to take, unless you go through a private or online school. Of course you need to be smart about this and know what classes you need for college, but as long as you keep a detailed transcript and good portfolio it won't matter to a college what you did in that first semester of Freshman year. Since you'll be applying as a homeschool graduate they'll look at the work you did as a homeschooler and take into consideration that you obviously started from the point you had reached before homeschooling. Make sense?
