  1. How about the burning of fossil fuels...or the burning of the amazon forests....or maybe...nuclear fallout!  A thousand others anyone?

  2. Humans very rarely use resources to intentionally harm the environment, unless you count all the anti-environment whackos found here on YA.

It is more a matter that the pursuit, harvest, transport, manufacture, use and disposal of those resources causes damage to the environment far faster than it can aborb the damage and regenerate itself.

Check my profile and look at some of the other environmental questions I have answered for some good related discussions.

  3. Sometimes the fertilizers farmers use for their crops gets into the water.  This causes the water to have *too many* nutrients and creates what is called an "algal bloom".  The algae and other green plants start growing like crazy.  When those plants die, aquatic bacteria go on a feeding and reproducing frenzy.  Soon, there is so much bacteria in the water that they use up all the dissolved oxygen.  So there is less oxygen left over for fish and other animals.
