  1. you can't disable a router from your device manager, you can disable your network card, but not your router.

Not sure why you want to do this, sounds like you don't have the router setup properly...

  2. First of all what are you having problems with? This question isn't making any sense to me.

  3. Looking at your link, I think the person was saying if you have a CABLE modem/router as one unit you would see it in Device Manager because the modem portion would be there.

If in fact you are using a CABLE modem/router and do not see it in Device Manager then there may be a device driver issue.  So find the CD that came with it and reinstall.

If however, you have separate modem and router then the situation changes and you will see neither in Device Manager.  If you are having problems with two laptops sharing a wireless Internet Connection:

    1.  Your router setup needs reconfiguration

    2.  Your second laptop needs reconfiguration and/or       hardware

    1.  Go to Internet Explorer and type in your router ip address

should be something like 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1

    i.e. http://192.168.2.1/

Get out your router documentation because it will contain your default password, unless of course you already set one up.

Make sure under LAN DHCP server is enabled and set a range say 2 to 10.  If this was NOT enabled save the settings and exit.  It make take a minute or two for the router to update the changes.  Now go to the laptop that's not working and do the following:

Start Run type in command then hit Enter

You should see a black dos box with a blinking cursor

Type in ipconfig /release  wait for the blinking cursor to come back and type in ipconfig /renew.  It should come back with an address (i.e. 192.168.1.5, etc).  If yes, your set.  If no, reboot laptop and try again.  If still no go, I'd bet the problem is at the laptop.  There are numerous things that could be wrong so you'll have to find some help with that.

    Now if yes

There should be a section titled Wireless

Wireless > Channel and SSID is the first page, you should see a number of important entries  SSID being the most as that is your wireless network id.  There should be a option for Broadcast SSID, enable it.  Save changes and exit.  Go to second laptop and using the wireless management application browse for the SSID you just setup on the router.

If you don't see it, again, I would suspect something on that laptop.

Otherwise you should be able to connect.

  4. your router isn't a device in your computer so you can't disable it from there.
