  1. 1. if your 14 years old and your really running the 100m dash in 11.9seconds then you are rarely ever "catching up" to anyone.

i'm 17 and i run VARSITY 100m in 11.9s and i win heats and quality in the top 5 for finals. and sometimes get first place in meets.

    2. if you don't start to catch up until AFTER 50 meters it probably isn't your start, it's probably a late top speed and a slow acceleration.

ways to train this would be dependant on your bodytype

what you need to train is your acceleration. you just need to sprint a lot and do explosive lifting.

make sure you are sprinting with good technique (get a coach who can watch you when you sprint) and make sure your relaxed when you run.

  2. When I was in school we had a clapper (two pieces of wood that u can smack together to stimulate the gun). The person who is behind you, holding your blocks is the one that sets it off.  It'll help your reaction time.  Also you need to practice falling starts, and ladder drills.  I had the same issue when I ran the 100m.. by the time I got to college I was running the 400m.  Hope this helps :o)
