My friends mom was moving, so she took everything out of the house except these comcast boxes. She said i could have one b/c she knew that i had comcast and she had no use for them. I have this box hooked up in my room and I'm getting signal just no picture. I can see the listings and on demand works fine, its just no picture. All I'm getting is ONE MOMENT PLEASE this channel should be available shortly. I called and comcast did there thing over the phone but that did nothing. is there something i could try before i get them to come to my house?

  1. do you ned a smart card? Try turning it off (hold for 5  seconds) and re-starting

  2. Does comcast know the box came from a different address?  The box is Comcast property and therefore your friend will have to pay for it if she does not return it (at least thats the way it used to be).  Comcast might consider it as stolen property--but unlikely as they would rather have your money every month.

The box has to be initiated using its identifier in the service menu.  Usually the installer does this when installing it.  Did they ask you for the Serial number from the back of the cable box?

  3. They might not need to come out, they may be able to do it over the phone.  Give them a call.
