  1. Do you mean a character style?

    Go to Window->Type->Character Styles

    In this pallet you can either:

    1. Click the "Create New Style" button next to the trash can, double click the "Character Style #" and set your font, size, etc. in the dialog box that pops up or

    2. Select a text box with the font, size, etc. you want already formatted and just click the "Create New Style" button and Illustrator will make a new one that matches whatever text box was selected at the time.

    If you need more help, search for "Character Style" in the Illustrator help file or at adobe.com.

  2. It depends if you're using Mac or Windows. If you download afont from a place like www.dafonts.com then when you open it, it should apply to the Fonts folder for you.

    If you look in the Control Panel you'll find them there too in a Fonts folder so try searching on the Control Panel. Drag a font in there and Illustrator should be able to find it itself there when you go to select a text in the program.

    Hope I helped :)
