How do i adjust my front derailer?

Question

my front derailer is not centered in the middle of the chain, therefore when i want to go to gear 2 i have to go to 2and a half and the same with 3. and when im on 2 or 3 the chain "clinks" against it, how do i adjust it so the derailer is right in the middle?
