How do i answer SAT Critical Reading questions that ask you for the author's tone or mood?

  1. Interesting question.  When you are skimming the passage, try to determine if what you are reading is 'positive' or 'negative'.  Is the author for or against what he/she is writing about?  

    When you get to the question, don't read the answer choices immediately.  Read the question and on your own come up with what you think are his/her emotions.  Answer the question in your own words before you look at the answer choices, then find the answer choice that matches up best with your own answer.
