  1. You have one of the best interview weapons already on your side:  your enthusiasm!  When you get into the interview, having that same attitude come across will make all the difference to the hiring manager.  All employers want employees who like their jobs and want to come to work.

From your question, it sounds like you are already past the application stage and into the interview round so I won't go into any pointers on the application part.  On to the interview!

First, be on time or slightly early and check your appearance.  It does make a difference since it is the first impression the interviewer will have of you in person.  It may sound like common sense but wear clean (not sloppy) clothes similar to what you would be required to wear if you were working there.  For instance, if the "uniform" for shelf stackers is khakis and a navy blue shirt with a collar - wear that.  That will immediately give the impression that you are ready to work!

Next, have a customer-friendly attitude and focus on your desire to work at Wegman's during the interview.  Be enthusiastic but also be sincere.  By being on time and dressing the part, you have already shown that you are taking this seriously.  Now you are showing that you really want to work there with your words.

The interviewer knows you are 15 and have school.  And they likely have other employees in the same situation, so don't be too worried about trying to tackle that first.  Your goal is to get the job first and then negotiate the details of your schedule second.  Doing this also helps the employer know that you are interested in their business and not just your schedule.  If your schedule does come up, address it honestly.  Tell them when you get home from school and can reasonably start a shift (4 or 4:30 based on your question).

On the flexible hours part of your question, most employers who are hiring teens realize that this is part of the package.  I would expect that Wegman's would as well - you won't be the first teen they have hired.  Your part is to be reasonable.  They still have a business to run, so they need you to be available for a decent schedule.  For example, if you play a team sport and have practice every day plus games once or twice a week, that may be present a challenge.  But if you are trying to balance work and regular homework, that will be easier to manage.

I hope you find these tips helpful...and that you get the job!  Good Luck!

  2. since you are under 16, child labor laws would restrict the hours you are allowed to work - it's only like until 7:00pm weekday during the school year, and weekends - so you wouldn;t get many hours and they probably are not the hours they really need help - probably have to wait until 16 until pretty much any place will hire you - child labor laws
