  1. The role of the coxswain is an important one.  She gives the rowers directions, steers, takes care of equipment, works to improve the technique of the rowers, etc.  These links may help.  Best of luck and have fun.

  2. physically you fit the coxwain category more than the rower. You'll have to learn to steer the boat and motivate your rowers. Don't worry, I knew nothing of the sport when I first joined my team, and I've been rowing 4 yrs hence. Main focus: have an empowering/encouraging voice. Good luck!

  3. Steer 1st. Boats are expensive. Know stopping distance and all commands, and avoid hitting anything.

Relay messages from the Stroke, the boat leader, to the others.

If possible, get so you can spot people out of sync, going in the water early or late.  Ask the coach and other coxswains.  Don't try to overwork the boat, but don't be too easy on them. Be a leader, not bossy.  Learn who to pay attention to, and who to ignore.

  4. your basically the voice of the boat, the focus to get the whole boat moving as one. you have to be very loud, and your going to be directing and steering the boat. it will be scary the first few times and your gonna feel like your about to crash. but after a while its very easy and you will get used to it
