ok so i do gymnastics and i am going to have to learn a back tuck soon and im way to scared to even try it on the trampoline.

on the trampoline i can currently do: a front flip, a front handspring, a piked front flip, and a straight front flip, a back drop, a back drop swinging my legs over to standing.

i also dont have anyone that can support me and i dont know anyone who can do a backflip.when i try to jump into one i dont see to get over at all, i just fall back, im so scared to jump realy high and fall.

is there any activities that can help to to land my backflip, or even try it! i realy need help ansd i realy want to do it. i need to find a way of getting around.

  1. I did gymanstics in high school, ages ago, and landed pretty hard on my head/ neck, during a foot pitch back flip gone wrong.

I agree with you about being able to see behind you, in the air, get your orientation, and land it.

My best advice is to head for the pool and a diving board, because hitting the water is much better than solid ground. A spotter who can lift you, and a harness, as mentioned...are not bad ideas either, but the pool is so much easier to access for practice.

Thank god I never broke my neck, but did get knocked out cold once, I believe the ER said it was comparable to a boxers knockout punch. YIKES!

Fear is your friend, as it usually keeps us alive, if we trust our instincts. :)

  2. Your fear of the backflip is actually a good thing.  There are 50,000 emergency room visits yearly from trampoline falls. Not many people can do a correct backflip.  Very few can do it more than once.   Your body wasn't built to fly backwards. I would ask the coach to allow you to skip the backflip.  You are doing enuf to show that you are interested in fitness and sports.

Otherwise you have to get a "harness" that lets you flip and never fall. Once you get the "feeling" for where your legs and arms should be, you can do a backflip.

  3. im no coach, but i use my arms and upper back.  i start by bringing my arms bent at about 90 degrees and swinging them backwards then quickly forward.  I also use my head and neck, and jerk them back a little bit.

ask your coach to help you out with this, you could probably get better instruction there.

  4. All of my students have this initial fear.  It's funny, because once you have done one, you will never fear it again.  It's just the initial one!

So - practise your back drops real high, LIFTING the hips and landing on a mat.

You need a friend to help you as well....

  5. I was scared to death to do it also and i would be at the point of jumping to do the backflip and i just couldn't do it. I got over my fear by just going for it. It was scary as heck and i landed really twisted but that helped me get over the fear. If you really go for it then you won't land on your head, the worst landing i had was on my stomach. My main point of advice is to just go for it, I know it's scary but i just did it for the first time today and i think anyone can do it if they just go for it.
