My team mates are very nice people but i want to play my favourite position, but the usual ones are good. How do I get picked ahead of them instead of getting shunted aside to other positions?

  1. Tell you coach to watch you carefully at practices. Show determination, make millins of tackles, steal balls from opponents, be the first at every breakdown, support players with the ball in hand, be involved more than your friends and a bit more aggresive.

If you do this, you will outshine your friends and most likely be picked ahead of them. Good luck mate on your endeavours

  2. Ask to play flanker in a B-side game.  Play your heart out, and try your best to get better.  You want to be the best person for the position, not just to be picked over better players because it's the position you want to play.  You will sometimes find that you will have to play a different position for the good of the team.

  3. The flanker is only really your position when you scrum down, at a breakdown make sure you get straight into the opposition backs when the ball is passed out , try and make breaks off the back of mauls, if you need to learn the role a bit, watch what the players in YOUR position are doing during a match, or go and watch a good quality side play and just watch what the flamkers are doing. Good luck mate.

  4. Along with the other goo suggestions, show up early at practice, stay a little later and work on the aspects of the position. Be sure to learn from the other guys as well, especially if they have played the game longer. It doesn't hurt to learn multiple positions. I have played every spot (except lock) so when I join a new team, I can go where I have the best place to start.

  5. Dedication, appearance at trainging, commitment, ability.

As a coach myself, I always look for consitant ability and dedication. If the best player does not bother to show for a couple of weeks without a good excuse, or does not train 100%, then they will be dropped out of position no matter how good they are to teach them its a team game not individual effort.

Show the coaches that you are committed to getting that position with your training and drive.

  6. Get them both to go on holiday at the same time ...... maybe the week of the next match......you'll be picked and when you do such a supper job, the selectors will pick you all the time!!!

or at least may be take it in turns.
