Hi. I'm new to acting. I know one of the ways to become a better actor is to look into the mirror and do stuff. I'm good at that. I'm a great actor at home, in my room, etc. But once I get to auditions, the first thing they tell you is to have big expresive bodies. I do that at home, but when I get to auditions, i kinda freeze up. And I get the part of like a nobody. But then like 4 days into practice, I get big and expressive. How can a prevent freezing up and how can i be big and expresive on the auditions??? PLEASE HELP!?

  1. Consider a couple of favorite  movies which you had watched and act out a few emotional scenes in front of your family or friends. It would be advisable if you could round up several friends or relatives who are interested. Practice several times and note their comments on your performance. Get someone to video tape the performances. You must get better with each repeat performance.

If you are good at imitating a character's way of speaking, walking and other mannerisms that would be a great advantage. Watch some great acting of acclaimed actors on  DVD movies several times. Regards!

  2. practice in front of your friends and have them critique you! or take a class/workshop/camp that can help you hone your acting abilitys! break a leg!

  3. Read Audition, by Michael Shutleff

He will answer any and all your questions about auditioning.

  4. You need to practice infront of people. Try gathering some mates and perform to them. As you get more confident with a small group of friends, maybe try performing in something locally for example a play or performance night. With time you'ill be more confident. Good luck!

  5. practicing in front of a mirror is NOT good. think about it - acting is supposed to be natural, and how you react to things. ACTING IS LISTENING, ACTING IS REACTING! by practicing in front of a mirror, you plan out and see what you're going to do and how to do it instead of naturally reacting to it. look up some good monologues and practice them - exaggerate everythinggggg, and then when you get into auditions, you'll be so used to exaggerating that by being nervous and toning stuff down yuo'll actually be right on track. think of it as a conversation with the people in auditions - you are this character, they're your friends (or other intended audience) and you're trying to tell them a story.
