im studying graphic design but my passion is starting my own boutique. I want to start off with jewelry (mostly made by me) and then once i profit, expand to all accessories and clothing.

I know i need to get my license to do this but what advice do i need and what is my first step to doing this? Also what are some good websites to buy stuff in wholesale??

Any successful business owners out there that have some good advice for me?

  1. Buy a boutique.

  2. start by doing lots of research.

get a biz plan template and

fill it in.  I am glad you are doing what

you like; web site and jewelry; now make

sure thousands of others want to buy

what you make........or you will be

eating a lot of jewelry for dinner.

    [old biz expression for those

who don't do their biz homework

    ahead of starting their biz]

  3. You'll probably need AT LEAST $15,000 to start off your business venture. Judging but the way you're thinking right now it seems like a long shot. If you want to start off small just selling jewelry you made chances are you're better off selling at the flea market and on the internet. Small shops are hard to keep open because there's so much overhead involved. If you plan on going through with starting the shop I would recommend you find a true wholesale source and get the best possible selection you can start off with.

  4. As You are studying graphic design, may be it will be good idea to make some drawings of jewelery, then apply for patent (patent on design) and/or trade mark.

I think it will be good start to advertise that You are selling only exclusive things. Additionally nobody can compete You due to Your patent/trade mark protection.

    Good luck.
