  1. You can check out requirements, benefits and costs at www.buckeyeacademy.com  There are also links to actual class schedules and contents.

  2. You should visit the websites of the departments that you are interested in working for. Most of the larger departments have websites that will outline the requirements and application and hiring process.  If you still have questions, call the department. Check out http://wwwpeaceofficerjobs.com for excellent information about getting a police officer job.

  3. Contact p.d.and ask them when they are doing the civil service exams. You will have to meet the criteria, diploma/g.e.d., clean background, and take a written exam, polygraph, oral exam, background check.... it is a lengthy process and done on their time line. Once you pass all your test, you will have to go to the police academy for like six weeks, then you are taken to the streets for your final testing, directing traffic etc. Word to the wise, BE HONEST about everything, if they catch you in a lie or even a misstatement, you will be disqualified, you can then appeal to a review board, being honest doesn't mean you will get to the next faze, it just means you are willing to tell the truth.

  4. First you may want to get a job in dispatch communications at your local police station. It will let you be in the police enforcement environment to make sure this is in fact what you want to pursue. Second, get a criminal justice degree at a community college. Then go to a police academy near you where you would like to work.

  5. Apply to the department of your choice that is hiring.

From the Tiffen Ohio Police Department recruiting site:

    # be a U. S. citizen

    # be at least 21 years of age but no older than 35 on, or prior to date of appointment.

    # have obtained a minimum of an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in Police Science, Public or Business Administration, or other related field, or be currently employed as a sworn law enforcement officer, with at least four years of continuous full-time service with an Ohio law enforcement agency.

    # be in good physical condition and of good moral character.

    # not have any felony convictions

    # hold an Ohio Driver's License (must be shown a the time of testing)

You can also attend at your own expense the  Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy but most departments will send you once you are hired.
