  1. It depends wat ur squeamish of. The blood? or just looking in someone's mouth? Either way, fears can be conquered, u just have to face up to them. Do work experience in a dental surgery and face your fears and then see how u cope. A normal dentist doesnt do many squeamish things apart from extracting a tooth. Its oral surgeons that do most of the squeamish things luckily. Im currently a 3rd yr dental student and i know a lot of people that were a bit squeamish in 1st year but after a few months they got used to it. Its better to try an know than to not try and regret

  2. yes it will affect your able to become a surgeon in dentistry. but all is not lost... you have the choice of studying to become a hygienist ?? which would invoke the use of chemistry and biology but without the extract of a tooth etc

  3. All through childhood I was terrified of the Dentist, so at the age of 19 I went to work as a dental nurse.

    It cured me.

  4. play counter strike often. Many serious manual dexterity-inclined surgeons often practice with high-stress FPS games.

  5. I have the same problem as you i want to be a doctor but i don't like the sight of injections or bad wounds i would say you will have to overcome your fears somehow only you would know as every one has a different perspective on phobias

  6. Dental hygiene can be bloody too when you do deep cleanings: scaling and root planing. In hygiene school we had requirements to clean A LOT of very difficult patients.  We would fill CUPS up of bloody gauze. If that doesn't bother you you'd be fine in hygiene.  Otherwise, you could try to squirm your way through dental school and go for Orthodontics as your specialty-  That truly is the fun part of dentistry.

  7. to be a dentist you get a 5 year course between that and growing up you should overcome being squeamish

  8. Just close your eyes

  9. Well if the thought of gawping into people's mouths all day and pulling teeth out, drilling etc is going to make you squeamish, dentistry is not the career for you.  There's not really any other jobs at a dentist apart from hygienist (same thing but no yanking and no drilling) and receptionist.

How about becoming a vet? or scientific research?  There's lots of different careers in science.
