How do i become a great volleyball player for my senior year? i want to go full out

here's what's going on:

i'm a senior. i havent played volleyball since 9th grade cause i was really bad at it. our coaches ranked us, and i was dead last. so when the season ended, i decided no more volleyball. but i missed it terribly. i loved the sport. i decided to join again for 12th grade. when i asked to join a summer practice for volleyball, i was denied, so i practiced all summer on my own. im decent now. seasonal practice started a couple days ago, and ive been getting positive feedback from some team mates. but i dont want to be "decent." i want to be amazing! as a 12th grader i will automatically be put on Varsity, but that doesnt mean the coaches will have to play me. i want them to want to play me. i'm motivated, i'm excited :D i really want to be a great player for my senior year. from worst to best. like a cinderella story.

so my question is: what will it take to be great at this sport? how much should i practice with the ball each day? how much should i run? how much should i workout (pushups, crunches...ect...)? i really want to do this

also, i have a spiking issue. my footwork is all wrong i think. i cant follow through with the steps and motion to get a good spike. they're weak or are hardly spikes at all. how can i improve on my spikes?

any feedback would be fantastic! i really need help!

  1. hey! so i'd recommend practicing everyday..maybe find someone to play with on weekends..umm run occasionally & focus more of paced running with more distance..other than speed..running great distances at a steady pace will build your endurance..work-out  every night maybe? or every other..maybe something like 5 sets of 100 crunches to  help build your core & i'd say 10 sets of 10 push ups to build up arm strength..as far as hitting..i dont know how to explain without showing so if you want i would love to help you out..just check out my volg at www.youtube.com/lavamonster4..& message me & i'd love to do a tutorial for you..also feel free to ask any questions..i have a ton of more workouts  drills & tips..so please check me o ut..i just started it, looking to help =] goodluck

  2. First thing first: I noticed you asked how much you should be running. Long distance running will do absolutely nothing for you in volleyball. Sprints and suicides are great, but running a mile doesn't train the fast twitch muscles you need to be a quick and agile volleyball player.

For footwork when hitting, do your approach 100 times a day without a ball. This will help you get the approach part down without having to worry about arm swing.

You should be working out every day. Cardio/sprinting every other day. On the other days you should be doing weight work. Check out the sites below for more training information.

Also, last thing. I would be crazy to say that volleyball isn't a skill game. Of course it is. But it's also a heart game. You have to love it more than anything and you have to want it more than anyone. You could be the best player in the world but if you have a bad attitude or don't truly care about the sport the coaches will see that and it will affect your playing time.

  3. to improve your spikes, it's best if you take a giant first step, and then two smaller steps.  It's a left right left motion and you swing your arms up and down with it.  To get more power you need to open up your hand and keep it firm, and then snap your wrist after contact with the ball.  To get speed though, you need to follow through with the ball.       ( the opposite of a serve)          If you really want to get a vertical  jump up and down on a single step twelve times, and then rest, then repeat it...  If you have any more questions feel free to contact me since i have been playing for years!!!  GOOD LUCK! =]

  4. idk i need points

  5. Alright... here is what you need to do. . . practice every day . .

Have a good attitude because most coaches will take someone with a good attitude over someone who is amazing with a bad attitude . .

If you want to improve your hitting ask your coach or a teammate for some extra help.

Practice wrist snaps hitting against the wall whenever you can.

    Try and practice every position

Be positive and cheer on your teammates after every play.

    Lift the team spirits.

And hustle on the court and shag balls.

Also you may want to try to get private lessons. or go to camps.

    Please answer my question :Dhttp://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

    Okay for your hits

ALWAYS go up with both arms.

Righty: Big step with right, small step with left, then last step with right!

    Opposite feet for lefty.

So you can jump high you need to do core exersices. so start with a jog to warm up your muscles.  Then try to do 50 crunches. 25 sit ups. 50 bicycles.25 side crunches on each side.

Trust me it will help and improve your verticle.
