I love tennis, it is my passion. I think it would be really cool to get certified as a teaching pro so I could teach lessons and coach. Im only 16 now, and i assume you have to be 18. It would be great if you guys could help me out, and any website links and personal experiences would be great.

  1. Schooling, Learning, Experience, Knowledge.

  2. some of the best teachers are not the best players. if coaching really appeals to you then go here:  http://www.uspta.com/

i'm pretty sure i would have kicked bolletteri's butt at his best.

  3. Apply for a job at your local club, and learn how to feed tennis balls and learn the basics of tennis. You have to know how to play before you can teach! =>)

  5. Good question!

    There are three certification agencies:

USPTA - the teaching branch of the United States Tennis Association. You can become a Developmental Coach by attending a weekend seminar. I have taken this coursework for developmental and certification. To gain teaching certification, you need to attend a 2 day class and testing of both tennis info and your ability including your ability to understand their particular terminology and teaching method. USPTA has around 15,000 to 20,000 members. See http://www.uspta.org/

PTR - Professional Tennis Registry. This is the international certifying agency. I have taken this coursework. It consists of a 2 day course and testing of tennis info and your ability including your ability to understand their particular terminology and teaching method. PTR has around 15,000 to 20,000 members. See http://www.ptrtennis.org/

USNTA - Founded in 1982, the U.S. National Tennis Academy is an association of Tennis Teaching Professionals.  The USNTA produces and administers a distance learning Tennis Instructor training and certification program.  Persons who successfully complete the program are designated as "Certified Professional Tennis Instructors." I took this coursework. You receive detailed bookwork, photos and 20 or so on-court teaching assignments you have to complete  and verify. USNTA has about 10,000 members. See http://www.usnta.com/

I have played with teaching pros from all three certifying agencies and they are all equally talented from what I've seen. I hate seeing and hearing them trash talk each other. It'd be much more constructive to the sport of tennis if they spent more time promoting the game and people's participation rather than their own agency and putting down the others. As I said, I've taken all 3 and they all had their good & bad points.

Good luck! I wish you the best! I hope you lead many more people into a love for the game.

  6. talk to the usta certified coaches around your area , and ask them if you can be a junior coach . so all you have to do is learn the things the coach is teaching for I think a month or two . then you could be a certified usta coach and charge ppl some cash ... I want to do that but the facility I play in has a non usta certified coah , but he is good ( he won the italian open) . but I am only 13 so that wouldnt look right , coaching ppl my age lol

  7. If you are a USTA member (you should be if you are that interested) I think they have info on what is required to be a pro...
