  1. Since you live in America, USA Hockey has a section on their website about becoming a certified referee; they have classes for officials that will enable you to become a USA Hockey certified official.

The two big things you want in an official would be understanding of the rules, and game management skills.  You can teach a monkey the rules, but it's hard to interpret and apply on a consistent basis while having a certain level of thick skin (because as you know, you're going to hear it from just about everyone).

Once you do that, work with your area league(s) to get on their list of officials.

In addition, you will probably be required to take some kind of life safety course (CPR, etc.) through an organisation like the Red Cross.

Trust me; most leagues are always looking for officials.

  2. You have to attend a seminar to get your certification, and register as a ref with USA hockey. http://www.usahockey.com//Template_Usaho...

Fine one in your area and go. And you prepare for the exam by studying what you learn in the seminar.

  3. apply for a ref job in this hockey ring.

  4. In your town city ect. find out who manages the local youth hockey program. (I live in Mass. and Valley Associates runs our whole program in Mass, maine, and N.h.) Contact them most likley by calling them tell them you want to apply for a refing job and give them the crudentials you stated above and most likely you won't be denied ateleast where I work we never deny anyone, but we are a huge program. U.S.A. hockey ma be able to help also I'm not sure.

I have never seen the exam but i have heard of it,  can't imagine it being that hard (I know some not very smart people that are refs) Know your basics minor penalties and major the 1:00 and 1:30 differnce ect. Most likely it will be common sense things you've played the game for 8 years so you know just about everything.

    Hope this helps good luck.
