What a good question ! I had the same problem - so I know how you  feel. What I did was to get some advice from a team of really successful business people who were already very experienced and asked them to help me. They gave me advice and referred me to organisations which include a purpose built and fully operational site from day one. It has been such a great experience for me and I continue to receive personal business advice and support.

You need to look for websites that offer a similar service to you.  The bigger companies will probably charge you for advertising space, which although is costly in the first place, is sure to pay for itself if the company you've chosen is well known.

Also, try to look for small businesses, like yours, to affiliate with, and get lots signed up.  Links on other websites obviously creates a larger audince for your services, but will also increase you Google PageRank.

After this, you can then start selecting different businesses to you, instead of companies who provide the same or similar service.  However, don'ty go too radically different as this won't be of any use to you at all.

Another thing I'd recommed is Google AdWords.  For a small amount of money, you can have your website advertised on the right hand side of Google searches- excellent publicity.
