  1. Does your figure skating club have off ice sessions you can attend? They normally help with flexibility.

You just need to stretch, stretch and stretch. Twice a day. By doing a series of split training exercises that I made up and found online I taught myself to do the splits after 2 months. You just have to keep at it and know that flexibility isnt like riding a bike, you dont just "get it" one day.

I find that while yoga is good for maintaining endurance in positions like spirals, it doesn't necessarily make you flexible.

  2. you dont need any special classes to learn your splits! you can do them for FREE! practice 1-3 times a day stretching.

everyone has a split they are the least comfortable with. so make sure you practice that one the most.

go down as low as you can (dont force it, or you will hurt yourself) just so its slightly uncomfortable. hold that for 20 seconds and repeat on the other two splits. you will see your flexibility increase a lot!

dont forget to do other stretches too! like bridges (i try to put my leg up and get my hands as close as i can to my feet.) they will help a lot with your spins like layback and beillman and doughnut.

  3. Yoga and/or pilates for the stretching that you need to limber up the muscles...

  4. Yoga and pilates are very good for flexibility.

Also there are some machines design to help you stretch, they use them in karate. http://flex180.com/

  5. yoga
