My friend is a really "green" person. she loves the environment! I think that's pretty cool. in fifth grade i did an experiment on global warming and it was terrible about how bad global warming really is! So can someone tell me whats good for the environment and whats bad for it? what should i do to help the environment more? I kind of feel bad that im not helping as much. can someone please help me? what can i do to help?

  1. Sounds like your on your way.

Dont compare yourself to your friend. Everyone is on theit own journey.

  2. walk

  3. Well, switching to solar or wind power in your home is great, but lets be realistic, that's incredibly expensive. 10 to 20 years from now it will be more cost effective, but right now, I'd say start small and simple.

First off, walk or ride a bike instead of getting in a car and driving. Based on my own personal findings, if something is within 6-10 miles, you can easily bike it, and in most cases (depending on where you live) in just about the same amount of time it would take to drive. Plus your getting some sun, some exercise, a little fresh air, and no gas is needed.

Reduce consumption, use ceramic cups, plates ect. and metal utensils, no paper or plastic. When you go shopping, ask if they sell canvas bags, and if they do, use them, this cuts down on your use of more paper and plastic goods. Recycle any paper, plastic or metal that you can. All of this cuts down on transportation of goods, which cuts down on fuel use, and green house gasses.

Buy locally produced or grown goods, this also cuts down on fuel use, and it helps your local economy. Support small businesses, the Mom and Pop stores in your town do not produce the waste that the local Walmart does, so shop locally instead of going to a big box store when ever you can.

What people don't seem to realise is that its the small things that really matter, driving less, consuming less and thinking a little more are what will really help the earth in the long run. And if people see you doing it, then they will do it too, thats how society changes its ways, and sometimes, it only takes one or two people to get the ball rolling.

  4. that other guy said a lot

another thing is use alternative fuel sources such as solar, hydro or other less common ones

you could also try to get a program going in your community or at schools.

we had a no tv week and if you succeeded you got a small prize in elementary school.

    there are lots of options!

  5. others hav told a lot....a few more, that i follow r, use mass transportation

like buses en trains....use as less plastic as possible...dont waste household stuffs like soaps.....en water..u can conserve dependin on ur lifestyle...shall tell u if i find any, en please do tell me too.

  6. Don't worry about it we will all be dead before anything serious happens in the United States. So just roll down the top on your convertible and turn up the air conditioning or the heat depending on the time of year. Have a Great and Waste full Life.  Bob  Post Script. I am going to do my part. I'm going to go out and buy a car that burns eight gallons to the mile.

  7. Actually, we need you to start increasing your carbon foot print. Otherwise we're going to freeze in what scientists are now calling another "little ice age".

They say that the last ten years of cooling we've experienced is just the beginning.

  8. There's an endless number of things you can do to help the earth. Some very easy ones are to turn out lights and turn off power-consuming devices you aren't using, to buy less, to avoid disposable bags when you do shop, to eat less or no meat, to walk or bike instead of drive when you're going on short trips, and to separate your recyclable waste products from "garbage." Use a refillable water bottle rather than purchasing and consequently disposing of cheap plastic bottles than find up in landfills. Buy organic food and clothing. Try a fan or an open window instead of so much air conditioning. Choose sustainable materials such as bamboo over exotic woods. Shorten your showers (this can easily be done by turning the water off while you use the soap and shampoo).

It really is an inexhaustible effort to be greener :) But start with small, easy changes, and add more as they become habit. Going green shouldn't ever be intimidating. Best of luck :)

  9. Then, start reading people, books, and articles on the subject. Visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyJLENVyN... and take it from there. Good luck and stay focused. Every little bit counts.

  10. Whether you're just beginning to become environmentally conscious or you've been green for awhile, you know that eco-friendly living has to start somewhere. Get all the background information you need, and learn how to get started living a greener life.
