How do i begin to file for custody of my son?

My boyfriend and I were together for 3 years and we have a 15 month old son. He only takes care of his son about 2 or 3 days a month and he makes promises to come see him and never shows. He has a drinking problem and I want to make sure that my son is safe and has a stable home. I support our son financially and he lives with me . I just need to know how I get started filing the papers and once filled out do I have to give them to him? What kind of fees are involved just any kind of advice would help thanks. Call the family court in the county you live in and they will tell you exactly what you need to do.  GOOD LUCK! :P

CA family law is a true pain in the brain...if you have any smarts at all...learn the legal of CA family law on line and do the most of it your self...

Simple, hire a lawyer. Look in the yellow pages for Attorney and call one who focuses on Family Law.  You may have to pay a retainer fee, but sometimes the Attorney can request to the court to order your bf to pay attorney fee and court costs.

Legal aid could probably help you also, I know that in Orange County they have offices and phone numbers where they could help you.  They help you for free or for a small fee depending on your financial situation.  Look them up on-line!
