Ok so i have been trying all last night, im doing a little project and i want to see if anyone can tell if the image is real or fake.... i have a pic of one person and another pic of another person and want to put them on a background image... now i have tried all the usual stuff like hue and saturation levels etc; but i just cant seem to get it to look right... the colouring after these steps looks better but you can still tell the image has been pasted ontop..

  1. Try converting to B&W, then with the exposure filter, adjust the gamma etc.

Also, try putting a coloured photo filter on it afterwards.

Sharpen it afterwards, and maybe ADD noise, then see what it looks like.

    Good luck.

  2. I find that the secret to realism is the imperfection. You blur and grain the image and it hide a poorly blended layer. Try using a "soft" brush around the edges of the pasted bit. It will feather the edge and help blend it in. There is an art to putting people into existing images, of which getting a good set of sources is key.

  3. I think there are a few options that may help.

First of all, if you are specifically cutting out the person, you will want to "feather" and or "smooth"  out those edges by going to Select>Modify > and there are several options to choose from.  Plus, you can adjust it to how many pixels you want to include on the edges.  Then cut and paste this onto the new image. It will be a layer on top of the other one.

Also, you can lighten the opacity once you paste it, and this may help blend.

Otherwise, you can clone along the edges ( but also lower the opacity when doing this... ) of the person.  You would either do so by going back and forth between the layers, or go ahead and flatten the layers, then clone the edges so they blend in the new pic.

    Thanks for reading!

  4. Presuming you're using a recent version of Photoshop, try the following:

Use the match colour functon to get the tones the same on both images

    (image>adjustments>match colour)

When you paste them onto your background, to make it look more natural, feather the image selection by a few pixels. This will stop it looking like it's been cut-out (select>modify>feather).

You made need to touch-up the edges and add a bit of shadow to finish up. Have fun!

  5. A good trick for cleaning up the edges after cutting someone out is to go to Layer>Matting>Defringe.  Start with default setting and experiment a bit.  As for matching colors of different photos I find curves adjustment layer to do the job very well.  Go into different channels at the top of the dialog box.  Another important thing to remember is to watch the shadows and highlights.  Make sure they match from photo to photo.

    Good luck.
