All i want to do is block certain urls from being able to be accessed on my computer. Ive looked all over the internet but all i can find are really complicated methods or somes which make a message pop up saying it has been blocked. Is there a way of blocking a certain url where it means the page just doesnt load where it says the page is unavailable. Something like that?

  1. use mcafee site advisor plus

  2. You need to look for parental control programs.

  3. If you're using Windows XP (dunno about Vista) try this:

    Copy this:

    %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Open Notepad, go to File > Open and paste that file location you copied into the File name text area and then click Open.

At the bottom of that file add text exactly like this but replacing yahoo with the address of the website you want to block:

    127.0.0.1 yahoo.com

Save the file and it should work immediately.

  4. go the page you want to block, in the tool bar select the button marked tools, then select internet options, go to security, then select restricted sites.  Add the site to the restricted site zone.

  5. Look for parental control programs.

  6. the answer is closer than you think my friend

  7. just click stop icon on the top and the website won't open or click tools then phishing filter then do the rest from there

  8. If you are using Internet Explorer 7 follow these steps:

    1. Open Internet Explorer. In the Menu bar click Tools → Internet Options → Content. In the Content Advisor box, click Enable.

    2. Click the Approved Sites tab. Enter the address of the website.

Keep in mind - if you want to block the complete website put * in front. For example to block myspace completely, type *.myspace.com

    Click Never and then OK.

    3. Click on the General tab and sure to select Users can see websites that have no ratings

    4. Enter a password you can remember easily with a hint.

    Tips:

    - Microsoft uses the Family Online Safety Institute for the rating service. You can customize and see if that fits in your need.

    - Consider installing web filtering software[2], which allows or disallows websites based on their content. Some good free web filtering software is: K9 Web Protection, Naomi, NetDog Internet Filter, and SafeSquid.

For Firefox browser I can recommend the Firefox add-on BlockSite (It is possible to prevent others from switching it off with password. Further instructions are at the site linked to.), which is available at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox... or adblock add-on.

Also if you are advanced user you can edit hosts file (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) to prevent access to certain web sites. More about this is in the 2nd link.
