I've tried using the "host" method and the "tools/internet options etc.." but none of them seems to block the site when i try it. Anyone know whats wrong? For example, i typed :

127.0.0.1 localhost

127.0.0.1 www.myspace.com

127.0.0.1 myspace.com

then saved.

after i have rebooted my computer the site is still unblocked

  1. Start button, control panel

  2. Your hosts file option should work.  It is the first place checked during a name lookup.  Make sure the file you modified was

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Once you've saved your changes the next time you start a new browser session it should resolve myspace.com to your localmachine and fail to connect.

FYI, it's a good idea to save a copy before you mess with system files.

  3. Parental controls should let you 'blacklist' them.

  4. make your account the administrator go on tools, internet options, privacy, sites..., type in the sites that you want to block and click on block, then go to content (located in the internet options tabs, click on content adviser settings button, click on the general tab, then it will say supervisor password click on it make a password so that other cant unblock the sites without the password

  5. You should also be able to control this at the router level, depending on your broadband provider...

If FIOS, you can definitely do this within the admin function of the modem/router.

    Call your ISP for help.

  6. you can go to internet options/security and add these sites there

or you can buy a tool like websense or surfcontrol and limit all kinds of surfing / downloading etc...
