  1. 1.) Its very simple. You should have 1 rooster with at least 2 hens so that no overmating occurs. If you only have one hen, the male can over mate her and can cause damage to her head. You should put the hen in a cage and let the rooster go arpund the age to see if he is interested. If he is he will walk around the cage and does a weird thing with his wing. When that happens turn the hens loose. The rooster will mount her for a coupke seconds and that is that.

2.) The mating rituall is very fast and doesnt take longer than a monute. Usually the rooster will strut his stuff and inpress the hen. If she is wanting to then she will duck down with her wings out and let him mount her.

3.) You dont have to leave him in there very long. The rooster can stay in with the hens the rest of the years. Most people just put him in with the hen and not get him out like me. I introduce them and he will mate every once in a while or a couple times a day. He wont bother the eggs or chicks. He will protect his flock from preditors which is good.

4.) I dont really understand "How many eggs" A hen depending on the breed can lay all sorts of eggs. The heavier breed such as the Australorps can lay 300+ eggs a year. The hen will lay her desired clutch to set on. Usually anywhere from 8-20 depending on how big the hen is. So dont think she wont set if there is 10 eggs in there she can lay eggs up to 30 if she waned to set and hacth.

Also roosters can be very territorial and flog you. Beware. HE is doing what his instinct tell him. If a raccoon or fox or even a cat come in his area he will be the first to die for him gals. But that wont happen if you have a sucre coop.

  2. just put them together and make sure they go about "their business". you can leave the male in however long you'd like. just make sure it's just the one female. let her lay as many eggs as she'd like, don't take them away. it usually takes about 3-4 weeks for them to hatch
