  1. I'm not quite sure what you're asking but let me try to explain how it all works.

You browse your domain (website) like you do any other website - type the web address (url) into your browser's address bar.

You don't have/need your own web server. It's supplied by your hosting company and that's what you're logging in to with the information they supplied to you when you bought the hosting plan.

To manage/edit your website, you login to the cpanel/admin panel using the information that your web hosting company gave you. From there you can edit your web pages, delete pages and upload new pages.

If you're having trouble viewing your website it could be because you didn't point the nameservers to your hosting company's servers. When you bought the hosting account part of the information your host would have given you would be the names of his servers.

Then, after registering your domain name, you need to change the nameservers (also called DNS) to the ones owned by your hosting company.

Usually servers are called something like this:

    ns1.yourwebhostingcompany.com

    ns2.yourwebhostingcompany.com

I hope this helps, but if you're still confused, contact your hosting company and they can help you out.

  2. I think I am confused, for ANY domain to work on the internet, there HAS to be a web server somewhere!  That server can be anywhere in the world but there has to be one or no one, including you, can "browse" it (meaning using Internet Explorer or Firefox etc) !

You can use a hosting company, you can run your own, you can have a dedicated server co-located at a data center but somewhere there has to be a web server on which the DOMAIN is hosted!

Perhaps you can clarify your issue?  If you mean you don't want to have a web server on your local machine, you can do that, you just pay a hosting company to run the web server or run the server locally without public access!

If you mean you want to use Microsofts Server software and do not want to have a website, you can do that, you just don't run the IIS  web server portion - the LOCAL domain will run without it. but it still takes a SERVER. Domain Controllers don't even require a purchased domain, unless you want email etc?

So what is it you want to do exactly?
