  1. It's kind of tricky to build cages, especially if you don't have the right materials. It'd be faster and much easier to buy one. Try to save up some money for one and perhaps ask your local pet store if they have any cages that are used or discounted. If not, they can probably point you in the right direction. Yard sales, flee markets and thrift shops can be good places to check.

Here are a couple of large cages that aren't as expensive as most. Good luck!

  2. if your looking to build a cage the site ali posted is a very good place to start,

Unless your going to get on eof ebay/craigslist/yard sales etc, if building your own cage..you almost defintley need some form of chickenwire, for ventilation and also so poo/pee doesn't pile up as bad. (the ammmonia from pee in the air is very very bad for rabbits.) But the flooring of a cage should not be all wire, because your rabbit would get sore hocks. You should also use thick wire and not thin wire, even if you have a dwarf rabbit. thin wire breaks easier, from rusting fast and such (if outside) if it's an outside hutch it needs to be off the ground. in my hutches they are about 3 1/2-4 feet off the ground, half the cage is wire, and half is woode. They also have a cubby space to go in to have privacy, and since there cage is outside.

Outside cages should always be in the shade, or else your rabbits coats may sunburn and fade in color (not desirable at rabbit shows).

if your rabbit is litter box trained you won't always have to have the whole floor wire, if ytou change the litterbox each day, but the walls need to be wire for ventilation. rabbits do better in cold than in hot weather. On our outside hutches in the winter we put lots of hay and usually nail up something on the back of the cages to keep it warmer.

If your going to be building your own hutch it sounds liek you'll need help because you will defntley be in touch with drills, nails, wire, wood, and cutting tools in most cases.

if you want it for inside/outside you could possibly make it so it secures and unlocks from the legs of a hutch to be brought inside, though wood cages will be kinda heavy. i would suggest choosing either inside or outside.

  4. An outdoor cage or indoor cage?  Thrift shops and yard sells often sell cages cheap.  You could also list an add on Craig'slist in your city asking if anyone has a cage to give or sell cheap.  Where do you live?  Maybe someone on this website lives near you and can give you an old cage.
