Sales tax in NC can be complicated.  The state has a tax of 4.75% however depending on what county or city your in there is additional local sales tax.  This makes the general sales tax rate vary slightly however in most places it's about 7%.   I've figured out the easiest way to calculate this with purchases is that for about every $14 you spend you'll pay $1.00 in tax.
