If you change your contacts phone numbers and drop the first '0' and replace with "+44", then you will be able to use in any country whether it requires 0044 or 044 (it varies from country to country).

So if you have number in your contacts as 07739 123456, change it to [phone].  {You get the "+" sysmbol by pressing the '*' key twice.
