  1. The dialing instructions are correct: 011 44 7.... and you need to have international service.  But be forewarned. international calls between cell phones are really expensive.  How about this?

We know you have computer access...does your friend? All you both need is a microphone for each computer and you can talk over the computer without the huge charges.   Skype is free--I think the yahoo is free, too. You can get a microphone for around $20 (give or take a few $$)

Plus the IM if you are both on yahoo at the same time. lots of alternatives to cell rates!

  2. You need to ring +44 then his mobile number, leaving the first zero off.

    So if his mobile number is 077 1234 5678 you would ring +44 77 1234 5678

  3. All you do is add the normal international dialling code for calling from the US to the UK (it's the same for cellphones and landlines).

    It's 011 + 44.

Then you remove the first zero of your friend's UK cellphone number so the next thing you dial is a 7.

Do check your call rates before doing so -- and remember, it's a lot cheaper to send texts than to make calls.

I really like this site for checking out international dialling codes: it's so simple to use. =D

  4. putt 0044 in front and cut off the 07 at the beginning if its a mobile number

  5. ignore kelly-x that information is so wrong it should be removed.

The 011 44 7 etc is the way to go PROVIDED that your cell phone is on a tariff with a service provider which allows international calls - easily checked by calling your service provider.
