How do i call new zealand from AMerica? whats the code?

i have a 10 digit number of a new zealand resident. I need to call my friend.. But how do i call her from America. the 1st number is 0. am i supposed to add it while dialing it. sum1 please help

If the number you are dialing is ten digits then presumably it is a  mobile phone (mobile numbers normally start with 021, 025, or 027), because as far as I am aware landline numbers consist of only nine numbers. Landline numbers consist of a two digit area code starting with a zero (e.g 03 = south island, 09 = Auckland; 04 = Wellington). Area codes are then followed by a seven digit number which is the personal number of the individual you are calling. So if you have a number like say 09.2458744 when phoning from overseas you would add 64 (New Zealand international code) and drop the 0. The above  number would become 011 (international calling from the USA) 6492458744.

    For a mobile phone number the principle is the same - drop the preceding 0 and replace it with 01164.
