so i have a problem with my cat bogie. he is not yet a year old until april and he is insanly hyper! he jumps on everything and loves to knock things over. he ate my plant. he plays with every plastic bag in sight. he wont use his scratch post. ugh. i try to play with him and he bites and scratches. i've tried to shack a can with rocks inside of it, but that doesn't grab his attention. squirting him with water makes him run away, but he just goes back to doing whatever he was doing 5 mintes later. my boyfriend doesn't really help with the biting thing because he likes to play with bogie that way. how do i stop this mad chaos and turn him into my sweet angel, or will he always be daddy's little demon!? please help me ):

  1. He's just being a normal kitten.

After about 3 years of age he'll calm down a bit.

He sounds a lot like my cat.  He's a lot of fun!  Just enjoy it, he won't be a kitten forever.

  2. My cat jakoby, used to be just like that. and we tried everything to calm him down. after we got him nuetered he calmed down a lot and even got more friendly.

  3. Tell your boyfriend not to let the cat bite him.  Once cats start the biting/rough play habit, it's almost impossible to get them to stop.

Get your kitty fixed if you haven't.  Neutered males are much calmer.

Buy or make toys on strings.  A feather or a toy mouse tied to the end of a string is a great toy for a rough-playing cat because you can keep some distance between Kitty and yourself.

  4. get the cat fixed

  5. Getting the cat fixed might help. You can do that when hes around 6 months I think. When you hold a kitten by the scruff it temporarily calms him. gives off some kind of chemical to the brain.. As for the fighting.. You need to ask your b/f not to be so rough. My b/f did that with my cat and shes still a demon cat. Also, for the scratching post it might help if you put some catnip on it and show him how by scratching it yourself. As for the plants.. I just got my cat some cat grass and she loves it. She hasn't chewed on the houseplants for a week!

    Good luck!

  6. wont happen

    mine also gets his "moments"

the only way tht i tame him is grabbing hima and not letting go

  7. He is still a kitten. Kittens are hyper and love to get into loads of mischief. Squirting him with water is not good for you bonding with him (cats hate water). Also getting him de-sexed (unless you already have) should calm him down a bit to. keep the plastic bags locked away because if he happens to swallow any plastic he could get gravely ill and cost a fortune at the vet.

Not all cats like to be little sweet angels. It depends on their personality. Some like Independence and don't like all those cuddles that allot of cats do. Some cats are also naturally hyper and mischievous. It could also have something to do with his breed. Some breeds are more likely to be hyper and mischievous, independent, etc than others.

  8. When your cat gets out of hand sometimes just grab it by the scruff I know, It sounds painful but not really. Mama cats use to grab there kittens by the scruff when the g ot out of hand and put them back down when they behaved.

  9. A couple things to learn about cats.

    Cats have cats.

And cats have a mind of their own.

  10. That is normal it's just a kitten playing

  11.   Petting.  You can help your kitten become a friendly, well socialized cat by spending plenty of quality time with him or her. He will like be stroked gently around the ears and under the chin. Be sure to pet her all over her body, so she gets used to be touched even on her paws and tummy. They enjoy being touched gently by you and will grow to enjoy your smell and your voice. Speak in a low voice - they are afraid of loud noises!

Playing. Play time is very important to a kitten. They learn to socialize, develop physical skills, get exercise, and have fun! Kittens have a great time playing with each other - rough housing, stalking, pouncing, chasing, and grooming each other. Young kittens don't know they are hurting you when they grab at or bite your hand, or run up your pant leg, so be patient and forgiving. If you have just one kitten, you will the focus of all of his playmaking attention! You can "train" your kitten not to bite or scratch by giving a high-pitched yelp whenever she gets too enthusiastic. This is how kittens let each other know that the play has gotten too rough. An idea which can help save your arms from scratches is provide what I call a "wrestle buddy" for your kitten - a stuffed toy or old sock filled with soft cloth or socks - that they can be free to sink their little teeth and claws into. Use it to rough house with your kitten and she won't become accustomed to using you as her scratching toy!

Scratching. Your kitten will start to scratch at things at an early age. This is the time to start training her! Provide a small scratching post or flat scratching pad and keep it wherever she usually plays. Encourage her to use it by enticing her with a toy or with catnip. Gives her praise when she uses it, and give a loud yell ("CLAWS!) when she scratches the wrong thing. A loud voice is generally all it takes to communicate the error - don't hit her or squirt her with water. You can also start trimming her claws. Wait until she is sleepy and relaxed. Start by trimiming just a few of her claws, and don't force it if she starts to resist. Pet her and tell her good she is! She will soon get used to it, and it will become a lifelong good habit.
