How do i capture mini dv video without using my mini DV camera?

i don't want to wear down my camera by using it as player for capturing.

is there another way to capture the film without having to play the whole video on the camera?

You could buy a MiniDV player, but that would cost you a lot more than a MiniDV camcorder because the players are targeted at the pro field for use in ingesting into video editors.

In a practical sense, you would have to use a lot of tape to wear out your camcorder. If you are worried about doing that, buy one of the cheap MiniDV camcorders that go on sale from time-to-time for under $200 and use that for your playback deck for video capture. You can find used ones even cheaper by checking www.craigslist.com.

Just use your camcorder - I've never heard of anyone complaining that heads, drives or anything else had been worn out by capturing the video.
