How do i change my oil filter on my 1997 1.8 automatic vw golf myself?

  1. drop the engine undertray and locate the sump bolt, undo that and catch dirty oil in a contain of some sort, flush engine through with an engine flush. replace sump bolt and undertray, look at front of engine and there's a big round canister protrudeing from the engine, you need to unscrew that and withdraw it, replace with new oil filter, wiping some oil on the rubber seal befor s******g it back onto the engine, fill up  the engine with a good quality oil.job done

    but really a oil filter is as simple as find it unscrew it and replace

    be sure to coat the rubber seal on the filter with a little fresh motor oil
