  1. There is no legal significance in names.   Call him what you will.

  2. I dont know how it work at your country but ask a person who live there, its better.

  3. I don't think you should change his name.  Regardless of whether you and the father are together or not he is still your sons father....and always will be.  It should be your sons choice when he gets older as to whether or not he wants to change HIS name.

  4. i changed my eldest daughters surname to her fathers when he decided to show up by going to the registry office. There's a small fee for this i think about £7 and will be issued with a new birth certificate.

  5. Unless the father gives his consent you cannot change his surname legally he will always have that surname he was registered with at birth, However, you can use any surname you like, as long as its not for illegal reasons, and he can change his name by deed poll when he is older.

  6. Deed Poll

  7. i am in the uk.I changed both my childrens surnames by deed poll online-cant remember who through --but just had to complete forms online then waited for papers through post to me-then i signed+ had witnessed then returned them with their original birth certs. These were then sent back to me with new copies including new surnames. It was easy but did cost more than £7  maybe about £50 each--but a few years ago[maybe 3 years.good luck!

  8. Deed poll, or by Justice of the Peace and affidavit (sworn statement). The statement has to be permanently clipped to the birth certificate so that it overrides it.

The birth certificate is one certificate that cannot be altered legally or illegally but the overiding statement will suffice for passports, marriage, and any other legal documents that need a full name.
