  1. Did you just get married?  Is this a US passport we're talking about?  I just got married shortly after I received my new passport.  I found that just simply showing a photo ID of my new name along with my passport (with my maiden name on it) at an airport was good enough.  For more formal things, you might have to show proof of your marriage.  If you find it absolutely necessary to change your name on your passport, then you would have to go to your nearest passport office or embassy to do that and it will cost you just as much as it did when you bought the first one with your original name on it... and of course, you would have to re-apply for one with all the proper paperwork, and wait for it (which can take up to 3 months).  If they did mis-spell your name though, I believe you can make the correction at no charge.
