Question:

How do i change the gearing in my 1985 suzuki LT230 to make it go faster?

  1. Change to one tooth up in the front sprocket or go down one or two teeth on the rear this will make the bike faster but less powerful.  But gearing a bike up for speed is a trade off for power.  Because sometimes it is faster going around the track it is faster if the bike is geared down for better cornering which can be faster in the long run.  

    But if the track is not a fast track you need to gear the bike the other way which is down to keep the power closer together.


  2. the easiest way is to re gear it. The easiest way to do this is to change out the front sprocket.... drop a tooth for more low end, raise it for more top end. If you do decide to change out the rear sprocket, add 2 or take away 2 teeth at a time, until you reach your desired powerband. remember that if you add teeth, the more torque and less top speed you will have....
