  1. go to control panel and to sounds pick another sound u like there

  2. Yes, you can do that with Psst.

  3. The Apple start-up "Bong" sound - is a ROM (Read Only Memory) firmware file that has been with the Mac since about 1984 which is probably longer than you have been alive.

You can turn it down but basically it is the classic start up sound that differentiates the Mac from the horrible Windows start up sound.

Apple also got that sound before Windows had its horrible tune.

For the record there is nothing wrong with sleeping your MacBook when not using it instead of turning it off. Many Mac users often brag about their Macs "up time" - ie the length of time the machine is running between system updates. Some Mac users, myself included would have their Macs running for up to 25 days at a time or longer and we only restart after having downloaded a software update that requires a restart. If you sleep your MacBook rather than turning it off when not using it you will never need to hear the start up Bong which is actually a cool sound that differentiates us Mac users from those poor unfortunate lost souls on PCs.
