How do i change the name of my computer?

i want too change the name of my computer but i dont know how to do it? i dont want too change my user name just the name of the computer. can anyone tell me step by step ive tried looking in the control pannel but with no joy. please tell me thanks

OK go to Start, My Computer R Click on My Computer and on the sup menu select property and a new screen well show name "System Property" go an select the one on top that call Computer name Change it an press ok an you are done

system properties by right-click on my computer at the desktop n choose properties...

then at system properties u can change ur pc's name~

If you have windows XP you have to go to My Computer and right click it and click "properties."  you will get a preference menu and click on the tab that says Computer Name.  You'll find everything you need there.

On a Mac you will go to the Apple in the top left of your computer and click on "system preferences..."  go to "Sharing" and then at the top of that window you will see a space where it says "Computer Name"

hope this helps.  dont know the process for Vista.

Right click "My Computer" and choose "Properties."  Scroll down and change your name.

It would have helped if you had specified what operating system you are running. On Windows XP, you can change your computer name (not your network hostname) by going to Start-> Control Panel -> System -> Computer Name.

There will be a field in which you may type the name of your choice.

Hostnames, however, may be specified by editing your hosts file, located at

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
