There are many programs that start up when i turn the computer on. I think they're all in the system tray. they seem to be slowing down my computer a lot.

So is there a setting that allows me to stop them from loading?

  1. For Windows XP, click Start > Run and type 'msconfig.exe.'  In the Startup tab in the System Configuration window that opens, uncheck any programs that you don't want to open.  Then click Apply; you may have to restart your machine.  The more programs you stop loading, the faster your computer will load upon reboot.

For Windows Vista, just type 'msconfig.exe' in the search box.  The rest of the steps are the same.

  2. click the start button, go to the Run command and type in msconfig and hit enter

Go to the Startup tab and you will see a list of everything that is running.  Just uncheck what you want to kill, and apply, then hit Ok.  Then restart.

  3. Start/run/msconfig press enter, then go to the start tab and untick anything you do not want to start at boot.
