  1. Lower plug remove and see if there is water or metal filings> To add oil insert the fill tube then remove the top plug fill to top>

  2. when putting oil in after you do the above you have to fill from bottom plug.i found it easier to get one of those tubes with a nipple on it and squese the oil in.push oil in untill it starts seeping out of the top plug.you have to be fast at putting the oil plug at the bottom back on to keep the right amount in.it wont seep as fast if you keep the nipple in the bottom plug and put the top plug in before you replace the bottom plug.it sounds confusing but if you look it up on line in the owners manuel you will get the drift

  3. 1. remove the drain plug (bottom s***w)

    2. remove the vent plug (top s***w)

    3. filter the first few ounces of oil through your fingers, looking for metal fragments.  A small amount of metal shavings on the magnet is normal.

    4. if the oil has a milky or streaky appearance it means the gearcase has taken on water.  Possibly due to worn o-rings on the vent and/or drain plug. Some people replace 'em every time, I re-use mine.  Replace those o-rings and check the oil again after your next outing.  Still find water you'll have to replace the gearcase seals.

    5.  get one of those plastic pumps about $10 at walmart or BPS, with a fitting screws in to your lower unit, pump the new oil in through the drain plug until it comes out the vent.

    6. reinstall the vent plug with a new o-ring.

    7. unscrew the pump and reinstall the drain plug with a new o-ring.

re-fill from the bottom so that the oil can push all the air out -- otherwise it's a chance you'll end up with air pockets, besides which, it'll take all day to refill from the top.

  4. remove both plugs on the lower unit. if its milky you have a problem  then to fill it  fill it till it comes out the top put in the top s***w pull out the bottom and install the s***w. dont worry if a little oil comes out  its ok
