How do i cite something I got from online?

I'm writing an essay and i got a definition for a word from an online dictionary. I need to cite it, but i don't need MLA format. Also, i used a definition from an online list of literary term. For this should i put the URL or the title of the homepage or what?

just put the web sites name or ask a librarian

if it has to be short then just put the homepage title - if the URL isn't too long then add that too
