  1. Hi you need to go to the local social security office INSS and apply there, you should get it (2,500 euros) quite quickly once the baby is born, but your baby WILL NOT have a Spanish passport. The baby HAS to have at least one Spanish parent to qualify for Spanish citizenship and a passport. Your baby will have the same nationality as yourselves. Babies born to foreign parents are not entitled to Spanish nationality just because they are born in Spain. Check it out but the authorities will tell you the same thing.

My children only have Spanish nationality because their father is Spanish, I know many ,many cases like yours and none have Spanish passports.

edit* you will need to apply to the British consulate in Madrid for a passport for your baby  ( assuming you are British ) and it won't be cheap i,m afraid.

  2. I have no children, but might I suggest you and your husband pay a visit to your local offices of the Social Security and make a few enquiries, I am not sure wether you will be entitled to anything at all, you will know how complicated the system here is,  if your husband was spanish you would get all the benefits of a national...............I hope you get more answers to your question, I also would like to know how folks stand on this......
